About

Eglės Sanatorija is a wellness campus set in a forest oasis that has been welcoming guests for recreation and wellness since 1972. This is the largest medical SPA in the Baltic States, designed according to the principles of the modernist mono-functional towns, with radially arranged buildings of different functional purposes and green spaces around them. The urban design of the complex drew on the architectural forms and aesthetic qualities of late modernist architecture, combining groups of low- and mid-rise buildings, as well as using recurring elements such as large planes, stepped facades, textured plaster, and accentuated balcony decoration. The monumental architecture of the health resort hides not only multifunctional spaces, but also a mineral water buvette and unique interior elements based on the motifs of the Lithuanian folk fairy tale Eglė the Queen of Grass Snakes. The interior features art objects created by famous Lithuanian artists: stained-glass windows by Kazimieras Morkūnas, Antanas Galecas, Gintaras Dumčius; outdoor and indoor sculptures by Gediminas Karalius, Marija Bankauskaitė, Jadvyga Mozūraitė-Klemkienė and Stasys Žirgulis.
