About

Hotel Central is the oldest hotel in Druskininkai that perfectly reflects the spirit of an early 20th-century spa town. It is located in the central part of the town, in a heavily built-up area. The hotel was built by Abraomas Lipšicas, father of the famous Cubist sculptor Žakas Lipšicas. The building of mature historicist style, with both neo-Baroque and classical features, is characterised by its symmetrical composition and rich facade decoration. The second floor and the pediment ending in a triangle with the word Hotel in relief are particularly ornate. The hotel was one of the first brick buildings in the city and served its original function until the beginning of the Soviet occupation; it was used as a hospital from the post-war period until 1970. After a major renovation in 2007, the building was restored to its original use and retained its historic name, Central. Today, the building is a protected architectural heritage site, listed in the Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Lithuania.
