Near the gates of the city’s old cemetery, visitors are greeted by the view of the Convent of the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence. The modernist structure fits in neatly within its surroundings due to its form and the use of natural materials. The modest architectural design perfectly reflects the building’s purpose. The harmony of timber and the colour white create an organic impression which helps to elaborate meticulous details and the unique asymmetrical structure of the building. It appears different when looking from various angles and the asymmetrical upper part provokes the observer to speculate about the actual height of the convent. In certain spaces inside, asymmetry allows for the creation of a special play of light.
The building was designed with the needs of religious life in mind. The sisters of the Congregation live by strict and consistent daily routine, so the visitors will have a unique opportunity to visit premises that are usually closed.
