According to the United Nations, around 55–57% of the world’s population currently lives in cities, and these numbers continue to rise. In Lithuania, the figure is even higher, with around 68.5% of the population living in urban areas. This shows that cities are not only the centres of economic and cultural life, but also the main living environments for people around the world. 

Every city has its own identity, history and character, yet they all share the same goal: creating conditions for a good quality of life. But what makes one city a more attractive place to live than another? What defines a good city – accessible infrastructure, high-quality public spaces, effective public transport, or employment opportunities? 

Another equally important question is: who are the creators of a city? Is it the architects and urban planners who shape its spaces and plan its future? The politicians and businesses investing in its development? Or does the most important role belong to residents themselves, who contribute through their everyday use of the city’s spaces, by voicing their opinions and participating in communal life?

So what makes a city a good place to live? How does a city actually work? These and other questions will be addressed during the discussion “Weaving the City: Creating a Place Where Life Feels Good”.
